Because the mountainous region is totally on the jap Section of the peninsula, the key rivers have a tendency to flow westwards. Two exceptions are the southward-flowing Nakdong River and Seomjin River.

The republic was proclaimed in 1948 파라곤 and gained UN-backed help from the US immediately after it was invaded via the North two several years later.
